Each player must have their own bat, helmet, and glove. Bats and helmets are available for check out from the association for the summer if you are not able to get your own. Please let your coach know if you need to borrow equipment. The family is responsible for returning it at the end of the season. Balls and tees will be provided by the association.
**All players should wear a shirt (their uniform shirt when you get it), socks, and athletic shoes on the field at all times. Please do not send your player in sandals or flip flops, this is unsafe. We recommend pants instead of shorts for safety, as well.
- Softball Glove: Youth sizes range from 10 – 11-1/2 inches. The size is stamped on the inside of the glove. Stay with youth sizes and choose one that fits the hand with a little room for growth. You can purchase glove oil or spray foam to help break in the glove. Place a softball in the pocket of the glove and close the glove around the ball. Fasten a rubber band or around the outside of the pocket. This will help form the pocket to receive the ball. Remember: The best way to break in a glove is to play catch!
- Footwear: A good pair of gym shoes will work at this level or you can purchase a pair of rubber spiked softball shoes. The spikes provide much better traction for running around the field. Soccer spikes work, too, if you want to use shoes for more than one sport/season.
- Clothing: Team jerseys will be provided and should be worn at all games. Coaches can decide if they want any "uniform" for bottoms. While softball/baseball pants are not required, they offer a level of protection from scrapes that shorts do not.
- Bats: If you wish to purchase a bat for your player, make sure it is light enough (17 – 18 oz.) and the length should be around 29 inches. Bats are available for check out from the association, see your coach if you need one.
- Helmets: Must have a face mask and should have a chin strap. A limited number of helmets are also available for check out.
- Additional suggestions: Dress for being outside and come prepared for the weather to change (shorts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, baseball cap or sun visor, sunscreen, insect repellent, etc.) No matter what the weather is, bring a water bottle with the player’s name on it to keep hydrated.
